Wagner: Price Per Head Agency is based on the very fair and equitable agreement between an onshore bookie and an offshore bookmaker. Wagner: Let me give you an example…and, you judge for yourself. The example of Jeff W. in San Jose, California comes to mind. Jeff contacted V.O. Group, S.A. in early October 2004 when he was writing 72 head of business making an average of 12 wagers a week of $152. Rather, his turnover per client was an average of $1,824.00 a week. Via his agreement with a sportsbook we will call Dollywood, he was splitting his earnings 50/50. Once he shifted the business through BettorsNet.com, he was paying $30 a head a week. So, would you call this gouging?

Online Gambling: Actually, the numbers sound good. But, I have to admit, I am not sure. Can you help me understand better?
Wagner: That is very good answer. Let me simply do the math for you to illustrate the facts, and then you will have a much clearer set of information to deal with. If your average player bets $1,824.00 a week on just straight bets, you should have a minimum hold of 4.5% (parlays, teasers and props have a MUCH HIGHER HOLD). So, that means you should make $82.08/person ($1,824.00 x 0.045). Then, multiply this by the number of head equals a theoretical earn of $5,909.76 ($82.08 x 72). So, this means he would make $2,954.88 per week and Dollywood would make $2,954.88 per week.

Online Gambling: Well, $2,954.88 per week sounds pretty strong if you ask me How does this compare to his using BettorsNet.com?
Wagner: When Jeff started using BettorsNet.com, we simply charge him $30 a head a week. Rather, $30 times $72 is $2,160.00, representing a savings of $794.88 a week, or $41,333.76 a year.

Online Gambling: So, by Jeff W. switching to V.O. Group, S.A. or BettorsNet.com he was able to make an extra $41,333.76 a year?
Wagner: No. Actually, he made $25,000 in the first three months because most of his players are far worse than the theoretical averages. Online Gambling: Wow! That is incredible. I bet large credit sportsbooks, like Dollywood, are quickly becoming unfavorable of your new product.
Wagner: Yes. They hate our new software offering! But, that is what you get when you take advantage of your clients or partners as they have. And, as far as I am concerned, credit shops with Agent Split Agreements have simply NOT been treating their partners fairly and now they will pay the bill.

Online Gambling: I must say, I agree that if your numbers are even close to correct, it appears that the credit shops that split the earn ARE GOUGING AGENTS AND ONSHORE BOOKMAKERS.
Wagner: Well, the facts speak for themselves. And, I am glad you see the facts for what they are.

Online Gambling: Is there ever a case where an onshore bookie or agent should opt for a split as opposed to a Price Per Head Agency agreement?
Wagner: Absolutely Yes. If you are starting up a new book, or if you need financial backing because you are not strong enough to support a losing week - then, you should opt for a split. The best way to judge this is simply look over your figures for the last year. Could you afford to pay out the worst week you had without going broke? If you answer yes – then, you should opt for PPH. If you could NOT afford to pay it, then you should opt for a split or not be in business at all.

As Founder and Proprietor of V.O. Group, S.A., Dalton Wagner has the reputation of making one-dollar work like three in online marketing. With formidable competition, Mr. Wagner founded V.O. We had an opportunity to catch up with Dalton Wagner on his last visit to Antigua.

Vegas Offshore: This year has been interesting for V.O. Group, S.A. and the offshore industry as a whole (advertising changes, etc.). How do you feel about the industry at the current time?
Wagner: I feel the industry is as strong as it has ever been. We are still finding that our advertising is bringing us new clients at an ever-growing rate. Some competitors are complaining that the crimp on advertising is affecting the industry, but we are not seeing this trend. Consolidation within the industry has begun, and I am sure you will continue to see smaller competitors gobbled up, and medium to larger companies merging. The weaker will go by the wayside.

Vegas Offshore: What about the rumors of V.O. Group, S.A. being bought?
Wagner: I am glad you used the term 'rumors'. The fact is that in July 2004 three suitors approached V.O. Group, S.A. because of our record-breaking profit year. In two of the cases we did see 'value' in a merger/relationship. However, at the end of the day, we could not come to terms that were agreeable on both sides. At this time V.O. Group, S.A. stands independent. And, we are happy being independent, profitable and growing.

Vegas Offshore: It is rumored that Bet On Sports (PLC; BSS.L) was one of the suitors. Is that true?
Wagner: There were three suitors that approached V.O. Group, S.A. And, in all cases confidentiality agreements were signed. For this reason, I cannot confirm or deny who any of the potential suitors were. What I can tell you is that one was a major sportsbook player, one was a major casino player and two were PLCs. I doubt that helps.

Vegas Offshore: Well, if Bet On Sports was involved, I bet you are happy you weren't involved in their November 24, 2004 stock debacle.
Wagner: The Bet On Sports stock debacle was an over-reaction by the market in my opinion. In one day you saw their stock drop 50% in value. And, the reason was poor performance in a very short period. If you looked at the other publicly held offshore gaming companies, you saw the same thing, just not as drastic as with BSS.L. Simply put, I know the founder of Bet On Sports, I know the management of Bet On Sports, I know the staff at Bet On Sports and I would not hesitate to invest in Bet On Sports. They were, and still are, undervalued in my opinion. They are a great competitor and a great company. I wish I had some of their stock at the new adjusted price. I just don't see how you can lose.

Vegas Offshore: It is rare to hear the 'competition' speaking so highly of a major competitor. Why would you do so?
Wagner: Simple. Bet On Sports is a great company. And, I am sure they would tell you the same about V.O. Group, S.A. The fact is, that there are companies out there that make our industry stronger. And, ones that make it weaker. Bet On Sports and V.O.Group, S.A. strive to make our industry stronger and more legitimate on a daily basis (as do BetCris.com; BoDog.com; etc.). What kind of ambassador for the industry would I be if I downplayed a 'good' competitor like Bet On Sports for my own benefit?

Vegas Offshore: If Bet On Sports did approach you, would you consider a merger?
Wagner: I like being independent. But, simply put, NEVER say NEVER.

Vegas Offshore: What of the rumors that you are looking at Panama as a potential relocation site?
Wagner: Our operation currently has offices in Costa Rica, Antigua and Belize. In Costa Rica we currently have over 400 employees. With employment costs in Costa Rica on the rise, the burden of Caja and the ever-changing political climate, we have looked at several alternative locations. One of the most desirable is/was Panama. However, due to the massive failure of BetPanAm.com and the political debacle involving their past gaming commission, we have decided to stay put for the current time. I think it is very safe to say that our primary location will be Costa Rica for the next 5 years. Pending any crazy licensing or governmental changes.

Vegas Offshore: I have visited your office in Antigua, however had no idea that you employed 400 individuals in Costa Rica. Why do you need such a large staff?
Wagner: Our industry has a reputation for being lazy and getting by on a shoestring budget. Most sportsbooks, casinos, racebooks and poker rooms answer phones when it is convenient and buy computers when the ones they are operating blow-up. Most are simply embarrassing to the legitimate operators. To run an operation like ours, servicing 50,000 bettors, you need lots of space, a 1st rate phone system, fiber and satellite phone and Internet backups, IT professionals, accounting professionals, etc. V.O. Group, S.A. is currently located in 35,000 square feet of space, operating 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, and we are busting at the seems. At the current time, we are negotiating to buy the building next to us for future expansion. I think we will employ 600 people come this same time next year.

Vegas Offshore: I have noticed that you are still branching into other products. How has this strategy worked for V.O. Group, S.A.?
Wagner: In 1998 we started with our sports product. We then branched into the casino product. In 2001 and 2002 we opened several major race books and poker rooms. The fact is that we are profitable in all products. However, our core product, and hub for our advertising, is focused on the sports product. The strategy has worked, but we will not desert our core product. You can look for our re-launch of interactive betting in early 2005 and bingo in mid 2005.

Vegas Offshore: What other changes do you see in 2005 for V.O. Group, S.A.
Wagner: I think you will see V.O. Group, S.A. work more on our Internet interface to make it more gamer-friendly; you will see our company move into land-based gaming; and you will see us acquire two or three smaller competitors. Rather, you will see what you have always seen, expansion.

Vegas Offshore: What other changes do you see in 2005 for the industry as a whole?
Wagner: The strong will get stronger. The weak will get weaker. And, the acquisition race will be on.

Greece Says Goodbye to Slot Machines!

The Greek parliament has presented a bill to ban all electronic and mechanical gambling machines in public places. This means that cafes, hotels, ferries, restaurants and passenger ships will be affected. A three-month minimum prison term and fines no less than $4600.00 will be applied. This ban surfaced because public officials were involved in a non-licensed slot machine scandal. While government officials were making laws against gambling, they themselves were caught in the act on television. In fact, Pres. Costis Stephanopoulos had rented his privately held building to a company that was storing illegal slot machines. Technical games for entertainment usage were excluded from the ban. The ban, however, will cost the government at least $27million dollars in lost tax revenues.

Last week Coinless Systems, Inc., a chief developer, manufacturer and provider of Coinless technology and goods for the gaming industry revealed results of a new gaming study conducted by Goldman Sachs & Co., showing that "cashless" gaming is preferred by a number of Las Vegas inhabitants who have taken a crack at the "cashless" slot machines. AN ASTOUNDING PLAYER/BANK METHODUltimate Baccarat wins flat betting, as the results reported at the end of this discussion prove. Most baccarat methods now in existence use progressions, whether up-as-you-win or up-as-you-lose to achieve the illusion of an advantage. Such methods may vary their bets from one unit to twenty or thirty units hoping that lucky wins with the big bets will offset losses with the smaller bets. The systems always have high stop losses, twenty, thirty, even forty units. Those systems will never work: you will eventually lose the big bets, too. These methods do not achieve an advantage over the casino; if they did, they could win flat betting. Yet none of the developers suggest flat betting, and will certainly never report a flat bet win. As with the infamous Martingale, these progressions only delay the day of doom.

THIS METHOD IS DIFFERENTWhile other developers fiddle with unworkable progressions, my own approach to the game has been to discover a method that wins flat betting. Most games will produce certain types of patterns or biases of one kind or another that can be exploited. Such patterns are most likely caused by inadequate shuffling of the cards. In a landmark study on shuffling summarized in the January 9, 1990 issue of the New York Times, Dr. Persi Diaconis of Harvard University demonstrated that it requires a minimum of twelve shuffles to randomize six decks of cards. Standard casino shuffles do not even approach this. The possibility of exploiting such patterns (from whatever cause) was the goal in developing my method. This player/bank method here discussed represents the culmination my work on biases in the baccarat game. A flat bet win is the surest way to insure that the method in fact is a true advantage method, that the method will sustain an advantage through long term play. The player/bank method here has been thoroughly tested against tens of thousands of real casino decisions, from real casino games, and has shown a substantial advantage.

PROOF OF A WINNING METHODCertainly, other systems have tried to exploit biases in the run of player/bank decisions. Unfortunately, such systems usually focus narrowly on a single kind of bias, whether side dominance or streak/chop patterns. Such systems will win games that conform to the bias exploited by the system, but too many games will not conform to produce a generally reliable method of play. The system here focuses much more abstractly on the types of biases and patterns that can occur in a baccarat game, and fares well against all patterns typically seen in a baccarat shoe. Indeed, the method will often change with the shoe: as the biases and patterns in the shoe change, so will the bet selection method. TIES, TOO!Ultimate Baccarat bets ties, too. Surprised? Probably. Most books recommend avoiding the tie bet. And at a 14% disadvantage, who can blame them? Perhaps the story is fanciful, or perhaps he anticipated our method of playing ties. We will never know. Ultimate Baccarat will, however, show you one way to bet ties. We mentioned in an earlier article that there is a certain period of time in which you are allowed to place bets. In between each spin of the wheel, the dealer normally gives all of the bettors about 60 seconds to place their bets. When the dealer spins the wheel, you still have a few seconds to place a bet. When the dealer raises his hands and says "no more bets", you must refrain from making a bet and wait until the next spin of the wheel.

When the ball drops into a slot on the roulette wheel, the dealer will place a marker on the table that corresponds with the slot that the ball dropped into. He then removes all of the losing bets. After that, he will pay off the winning bets, and remove the marker from the table. Players are not allowed to touch their chips during this time, or else they could be removed from the casino.

Above all else, just be courteous. Make sure that you don't knock over anybody else's chips. Make sure that you are respectful to the dealer and the people around you, and also offer the dealer a small tip every 10th spin or so. And also, have a fun time playing roulette, but don't get too excitable or drunk, as nobody enjoys a person elbowing them or screaming in their ear. Just have a fun time and be respectful, and hopefully karma will reward you.

Bust -- when the player has a hand that adds up to a total of more than 21. This results in at best a push, at worst a loss of the hand
Chips -- the betting device used in blackjack. Chips come in all sorts of different denominations
Double Down -- when the player is dealt a pair of favorable cards, normally a 9, 10, or 11, and doubles the amount of their bet. The only disadvantage in this is that the player is only allowed to draw one more card no download poker
Face Cards -- Jack, Queen or King, all having a value of 10
Hit -- when a player requests another card from the dealer
Hole Card -- the face down card that the dealer has. This card is turned over once all of the players have made their wagers and have all taken action
Insurance -- when the dealer gets an ace to start the hand, you can buy insurance for half of your total original bet. If the dealer gets blackjack, you are protected from the normal loss you would have incurred. If the dealer does not get blackjack but still beats you, you lose your original bet, plus the half of the bet used for the insurance
Push -- basically a tie. When the player neither wins nor loses
Split -- when the player is dealt a pair of card, they have the option of "splitting" the cards and basically having two active hands. For instance, if the player is dealt two 8's, they can split the hand, and have two 8's as the first card of their hands.

Suppose playing Texas Holdem you are under the gun with a marginal hand like KJo. What should you do? Some learning players would immediately consult their starting hand charts, either literally or in their memory, and then decide what action to take. Unfortunately, rigid adherence to artificial charts is the root of ruin of many people who might otherwise become quite good poker players. A lot of these players may in fact become winning players, especially in rake games where the house takes its cut from the pot rather than equally from each player, but I suggest most players relying on starting hand charts are either doomed to never be much good at poker, or will end up as merely mediocre.

Strong, solid winning poker is all about situational analyses. Every situation is somewhere between slightly different and very different from other situations -- even if you hold the very same cards! KJo is just not KJo, even if the situations appear the same on the surface.Suppose you have two very weak/loose players in the blinds, with you holding KJo first to act. Ideally, you would want to play with these two loose players with this hand. At the same time, suppose you have weak/tight players behind you, who will fold hands as good as AQo if it is raised. The correct play here will often be to raise with the KJo, and much of the time get to play against the two weak players in the blinds. Now change this, and you have two loose/aggressive players in the blinds and solid/strong players behind you who will reraise you with AQo. Well, now your KJo is a pile of muckable junk.At the very least, it should be easy to see that these two situations are extremely different from each other. Whatever value KJ has in the first scenario with weak players behind you and in the blinds, it has less value with aggressive players in those positions. It’s not the same. A solid, sensible player should consult his or her brain when facing these very different circumstances -- not some silly chart divorced from reality.What you do in a poker game depends on the game conditions, the players in the blind, who has acted so far, who won or lost the previous pots, and so on. A dozen or more factors should go into your thought process of why a hand should be played, and how it should be played. Another example is: Suppose two super-tight players are in the blinds and you are one behind the button. The universe of hands you should play for a raise here is simple: every single two-card combination from AA to 72o. No starting hand chart can tell you that. If the wrong person is designated as low and that person bets, the action will be corrected to the true lowcard if the next player has not yet acted. The incorrect lowcard takes back the wager and the true lowcard must bet. If the next hand has acted after the incorrect lowcard wager, the wager stands, action continues from there, and the true lowcard has no obligations. 10. If you pick up your upcards without calling when facing a wager, this is a fold and your hand is dead. This act has no significance at the showdown because betting is over; the hand is live until discarded. 11. A card dealt off the table must play and it is treated as an exposed card. 12. In all games, the dealer announces the lowcard, the high hand, all raises, and all pairs. Dealers do not announce possible straights or flushes (except for specified low-stakes games). 13. If the dealer burns two cards for one round or fails to burn a card, the cards will be corrected, if at all possible, to their proper positions. If this should happen on a final downcard, and either a card intermingles with a player's other holecards or a player looks at the card, the player must accept that card. 14. If the dealer burns and deals one or more cards before a round of betting has been completed, the card(s) must be eliminated from play. After the betting for that round is completed, an additional card for each remaining player still active in the hand is also eliminated from play (to later deal the same cards to the players who would have received them without the error). After that round of betting has concluded, the dealer burns a card and play resumes. The removed cards are held off to the side in the event the dealer runs out of cards. If the prematurely dealt card is the final downcard and has been looked at or intermingled with the player's other holecards, the player must keep the card, and on sixth street betting may not bet or raise (because the player now has all seven cards). 15. If there are not enough cards left in the deck for all players, all the cards are dealt except the last card, which is mixed with the burncards (and any cards removed from the deck, as in the previous rule). The dealer then scrambles and cuts these cards, burns again, and delivers the remaining downcards, using the last card if necessary. If there are not as many cards as players remaining without a card, the dealer does not burn, so that each player can receive a fresh card. If the dealer determines that there will not be enough fresh cards for all of the remaining players, then the dealer announces to the table that a common card will be used. The dealer will burn a card and turn one card faceup in the center of the table as a common card that plays in everyone’s hand. The player who is now high using the common card initiates the action for the last round. 16. An all-in player should receive holecards dealt facedown, but if the final holecard to such a player is dealt faceup, the card must be kept, and the other players receive their normal card. 17. If the dealer turns the last card faceup to any player, the hand now high on the board using all the upcards will start the action. The following rules apply to the dealing of cards: (a) If there are more than two players, all remaining players receive their last card facedown.
